Do you own a silencer for your handgun? Do you have a pistol-mounted red dot optic? Are both
scenarios applicable to you? If so, you may want to investigate getting some “suppressor height iron
sights.” You might have heard of them before. The name sounds cool – it has got to give you a +10
coolness factor among your friends. There are some very valid reasons why you may want to add
suppressor height sights to your pistol build though in all seriousness. Let’s dive into those today!
The most obvious reason to get yourself some suppressor height sights would be to see over a
suppressor. Suppressors are phenomenal in that they mitigate recoil and dampen sound to near hearing
safe levels. What they fail to do is allow for an adequate sight picture. So, by installing suppressor height
sights you can see over your silencer and maintain a good sight picture.
Another reason why you might want to contemplate installing suppressor height sights on your pistol is
so you can co-witness your pistol-mounted red dot optic. In overly bright lighting conditions, people can
sometimes not see their red dot. Other times, there might be obstructions like dirt, debris, humidity,
and/or water. So, having suppressor height sights that co-witness can train us to use both
simultaneously. Then, if either fails, we intuitively are in proper shooting positions to continue aiming,
shooting, and hitting our mark as we need to.
Piggybacking off that idea, if your red dot fails, you can look through your glass and still have serviceable
sights. Electronics of all kinds can fail you; red dots included. Whether it is a battery going dead, the
housing being irreparably damaged, or something else catastrophic occurs, being able to see some
suppressor height sights can keep you in the fight – if it is your defense pistol – or afford you the ability
to finish a match.
Yet another reason to have suppressor height sights is for weapon manipulations in adverse conditions.
This could be racking the slide with one hand, clearing malfunctions, and/or getting a jammed slide
knocked free against a table, post, or other implementations. Tall, strong suppressor height sights (like the
ones we carry at Tyrant) can be used in creative ways to ensure your pistol keeps humming along.
Finally, with suppressor height sights you can have a faster sight acquisition of your iron sights; they’re
larger and more prominent which will catch our gaze more quickly. So, for all of those reasons, you may
want to seriously consider getting yourself some suppressor height sights in the near future! Until next
