Blog # 220 - SIG Sauer’s New 17+1 Capacity P365 X- MACRO

POST DATE: Oct 17, 2022

Concealed carry pistols have evolved quite a bit over time. While the primary goal for many is to remain concealed, that concealability in the modern age will only get you so far if you find yourself confronted with someone who is not only trying to harm you but is more armed than you are. The simple fact that assailants can be packing anything from an antiquated revolver up to the latest and greatest polymer wonder nines means that you should probably be at least similarly or superiorly equipped. Cue the introduction of the new P365 X-Macro. The Macro was released back on August 11th, 2022, and immediately made waves in the firearms industry for a number of reasons, but most notably for its unprecedented 17+1 capacity all being squeezed into something about the size of a Glock 48.

The Macro isn’t really anything new, it's just pushing the general trend of the CCW market further in the direction it was already going in - more capacity. Previous versions of the P365 could carry up to 15+1 rounds of 9mm in extended magazines or up to 12+1 rounds in their standard capacity configuration. All of these options already far exceed the CCW pistols I carried back when I turned 21. Back in those days, I was carrying a bone stock, Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield, with a measly 8+1 capacity with its extended magazine. However, I’ve since switched to carrying the X-Macro to see if the slightly increased size and width of the Macro really does make all that much of a difference in discomfort when it comes to my daily routine.

Like other offerings in the P365 lineup the Macro is accurate, reliable, and thanks to the successful initial launch of the original P365, has tons of aftermarket support in terms of accessories, parts, and holsters. You could argue back and forth all day long about how much or how little magazine capacity matters when it comes to your CCW rig but personally I always follow what makes the most sense at the moment. If I can carry a 17+1 capacity firearm without excessively printing or having it get in the way of my daily activities, why shouldn’t I? In addition to the increased capacity, I’ve also become accustomed to carrying with a red dot and the macro comes standard with that option. I’m currently running a SIG ROMEOZERO Elite micro red dot on it to great effect on the flat range, and in my daily dry fire practice.

Overall the P365 X-Macro is already showing signs of being my new favorite carry piece, but I think I’ll be moving and shaking with this thing both on and off the range for at least a couple more months before I decide if it's going to replace my long time favorite, the Glock 48. If you guys have had experience with your own P365 X-Macro, let us know what you think of it down in the comments! We’d love to hear from you and talk shop!
