If you have your finger on the pulse of the gun industry scene and its happenings, then you likely have noticed the influx of people chasing after pistols called “2011” or some permutation of that. So, what is a model 2011, and should you be interested in them?... Well, what a model 2011 typically refers to is a double-stack pistol modeled after the iconic 1911. We all know and understand that 1911s can be surgically accurate, but one of their greatest failings is their magazine capacity. Most only hold 7 rounds and that is a great hindrance for not only competition and recreation, but also for defense. So, what the model 2011 solves is magazine capacity. You have the same accuracy and quality fit/finish we desire, but now with more rounds at your disposal. This brings us to one of the newest offerings on the market with Springfield Armory throwing their hat into the ring with their NEW 1911 DS Prodigy!

So, what makes the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy so much better than other 2011 pistols on the market today?... For one, it is significantly cheaper than comparable pistols. We are talking thousands of dollars cheaper. Many model 2011 style handguns range in price from $3,000 - $5,000 which is a kingly sum for one handgun. The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy is a significantly more affordable and attainable price point at $1,500 MSRP.

A few other reasons you might want to entertain the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy is for its supremely high craftsmanship at that significantly more affordable price point. The fit finish between the slide, barrel, and frame is silky smooth like hot butter on a frying pan. When you rack and manipulate the slide it is one of the smoothest handguns you will ever feel. There is a bull barrel inserted in the slide – which improves accuracy because of the heavier walled barrel – and it also is so large that no barrel bushing is required at all (fewer moving parts is a good thing). Secondly, the gun is already cut for optics and associated optics plates. So, there is no need for additional financial investment to add your favorite micro red dot optics. Another final reason is the feel of the grip and frame. Not only is it gently, but crisply stippled for adequate command of the firearm, but the frame is also easily replaceable if you want to switch it out to something more to your liking.

If you are one of those people who love the iconic look and feel of a 1911 but want more rounds with a more modern look then the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy could be right for you.
