Blog #189 - Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro

When it comes to a well-concealed carry pistol what are some of the modern traits or characteristics that you are searching for?... For myself, I want it to have a higher capacity. That is a vague statement, but something on the order of 12 or more rounds makes me confident carrying a pistol without the need of carrying an additional magazine all the time. Also, I want to be able to customize it. Again, vague statement, but a modern carry gun should have an accessory/Picatinny rail, it should allow for aftermarket sights (if you choose to update/change them), and it should be optics ready. Now that we are in the 21st century and micro red dots are all the rage I view it as simply foolhardy if a manufacturer debuts a new firearm and it is not optics ready. One recent firearm that fits all of my criteria is the Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro. Springfield Armory has had their popular Hellcat out for a couple of years now. There is a base model simply dubbed the Hellcat, and there is a more premium or “Gucci” version in the Hellcat RDP (Rapid Defense Package). It comes with extended magazines, a factory-mounted micro red dot, and a compensator on the end of the barrel. So, it has a ton of bells and whistles straight out of the box. But what if you want to customize your pistol yourself, or the accessories Springfield chose to utilize do not “trip your trigger?” Well, then the Hellcat Pro might be for you. The Hellcat Pro is what Springfield calls an OSP version (Optical Sight Pistol) simply meaning it can accept micro red dots without the additional need for slide milling. Also, it boasts a 15-round, flush-fit magazine capacity for carrying. Moreover, you have that accessory rail underneath the barrel I mentioned earlier so you can also add on a flashlight if you so desire. So, you get a lot of guns without that “Gucci” price tag. For all of those reasons, the newly announced Hellcat Pro has made it into my everyday carry (EDC) line-up for capacity, customization, and it is simply an accurate-shooting carry gun. It is difficult to find anything wrong with the pistol. I highly suggest you check one out for yourself whether you have zero carry pistols or dozens. You might be tempted to take it home with you as I did. Until next time, continually check out our blog, join our newsletter, and watch the website for new and exciting updates!
