The start of a new year might mean new year’s resolutions for many, but for those of us involved in the firearm industry, it also means SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show). Basically, it's like Christmas morning when all of the industry’s manufacturers unveil the newest and coolest products they are going to produce for the year. We kept all of our elves at home to continue producing a bevy of products for you ladies and gents, but there were still a lot of cool products to be excited about coming from SHOT Show 2023. One of them was the announcement of Beretta bringing back the Cheetah!
The Beretta Cheetah is a throwback melding of a great concealed carry pistol as well as a soft-recoiling, manageable full-size .380 ACP pistol. Throughout history, there have been very few full-size .380 ACP handguns because as soon as the .380 ACP cartridge came on the scene and became popular, so did the 9mm round which outperforms it in nearly all metrics – for carry and range shooting. For nostalgic shooters though, the Beretta Cheetah (with its unique name and equally unique design) has been given a lot of modern touches with this newest rendition debuted at SHOT Show 2023.
One of the immediate features shooters will notice is the popular Beretta Vertec style grip which is slimmer and fits a great population of shooters’ hands. This gives you more dexterity, curb appeal, and comfort while shooting. There is also the relatively new X-Treme S Double/Single trigger for a repeatable, smooth trigger pull whether you are sending rounds down range via a double-action or single-action trigger pull. Other highlights are a serrated mainspring housing, a front strap, and a skeletonized hammer. These elements are not only aesthetically pleasing but support better manipulations of all of the functions of the handgun.
The two most forward-thinking features on the new Beretta 80X Cheetah .380 ACP are the optics-ready slide straight out-of-the-box, and the protective yet stunning bronze finish. It is more common to see optics-ready pistols for concealed carry than it is not. So, to bring back a legend like the Beretta Cheetah, it only makes sense that they add in that small tweak to please more shooters. Now, whatever might be your favorite micro red dot optic, you can add it to the new Beretta 80X Cheetah and burn down plate racks at the range like Joh Wick.
All in all, I love it when manufacturers bring back old models and give them a once-over with modern features and touches. We currently do not craft any components for Beretta handguns, but what do you think? Would you like to see Tyrant get in the Beretta game? For this Beretta Cheetah or maybe the Model 92 series?
