With all of us being stuck in the dead of winter, it leaves a lot of time to peruse the internet to see what new firearms are available, what new gadgets exist, and how we’re going to spend our next paycheck on guns. One of the best firearms to come out last year (even though we all want to forget last year) is the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Waypoint.

Springfield Armory is primarily known for their 1911s, M1As, and more recently AR-15s. One firearm category that has never been in their portfolio of arms until the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Waypoint came about are bolt-action rifles. Springfield has cemented a long-tenured legacy of being meticulous in their craftsmanship and that pours over into their 1st ever bolt-action rifle.

The 2020 Waypoint is unique in that it boasts all of the qualities of a supremely accurate target rifle yet it is surprisingly light enough where hunters would want to take it into the field with them. I recently went on a hunt out in western North Dakota for coyotes and was continually climbing steep rock faces and cliffs to get into high vantage points. With the 2020 Waypoint fully-equipped with a sling, riflescope, and loaded magazine the entire package was still relatively light and not burdensome at all to be trekking at high elevations and in precarious positions. That is the beauty of a light rifle that you are willing to take into the field. Its weight is never on your mind so you can focus on the hunt at hand.

The other shining factor that has pushed my wallet over the edge is the accuracy of this rifle. It has a 0.75 MOA guarantee out of the box, which with many manufacturers does not equate to much, but with Springfield that accuracy guarantee holds true. The 1st ammunition I tried to feed through this rifle was some Federal Premium 6.5 Creedmoor 95 Grain V-Max – which is incredibly light for the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge – and it shot hole-in-hole at 100 yards; fantastic results! That was the ammunition I took out west hunting and with shot opportunities out to 600 yards it is comforting knowing how accurate this rifle truly is.

Some other premium features from this newcomer rifle are a carbon fiber stock for weight reduction, carbon fiber wrapped barrel for further weight reduction, and a TriggerTech trigger that is adjustable to the shooter’s liking. If you are looking for a rifle to jump into long-range shooting, a superb choice in a lightweight hunting rifle, or all of the above, you may want to take a good hard look at the Springfield Armory 2020 Waypoint.
