Welcome back to the 36th installment of my blog, in which I don’t claim to be an expert, in fact the opposite. I’m a new user to the AR platform and want to share my findings and experiences as I go through and build rifles as well as being the Operations Manager at Tyrant Designs.

YOUTUBE IS UP TO NO GOOD ONCE AGAIN.

This week I’ve noticed a couple instances of Youtube trying to censor gun channels. I first caught on when I saw that I was not receiving notifications for new video content from my favorite channels. When I looked into this, I found out that Youtube had put some of my favorite channels in an “adult/mature/restricted” category. I never set an age on my account so Youtube automatically unsubscribed me from all my favorite gun focused channels. So If you notice you’re not getting notifications from some of your favorite channels you may want to double check.

The Second thing I noticed was an anti gun/pro gun control advertisement on a recent Youtube video from one of my favorite channels, The Daily Shooter. I’m accustomed to seeing NRA ads before videos , but this time there was an ad with different celebrities urging you to call congress to oppose conceal carry reciprocity and the Share Act. ( I wonder how celebrities would feel if their body guards and the people protecting them couldn’t use firearms...)

I want to get a few of my opinions out there when it comes to Youtube. First and foremost I am aware that Youtube is a part of Google, and Google is a publicly traded company. They own the site and most likely the servers in which content is spread via Youtube. I do not think censoring gun channels is a violation of the 1st amendment because of this. BUT…. I do not agree with the censorship and here is why.

TV channels are subject to advertisement revenue which ends up dictating the type of content they put out. Youtube is the new TV. It’s an amazing tool to get content straight to people without having to go through all the filters of corporate cable channel provider. This allows you and I to see raw unfiltered information, with the only opinion given is that of the content creator and not some BS subliminal messaging.

It is easy to find good quality firearms information and instructional videos on Youtube. I’ve learned most of my information on proper firearm care and firearm safety through various Youtube gun channels. These channels have helped to bring some transparency and years of expertise to the new or average firearms enthusiast. Some people don’t have the time nor the money to spend on training and certain channels provide this information for FREE. This means we will have more educated users out there. The banning or blocking of these channels is a deliberate move by people with an anti gun agenda, plain and simple.

I don’t want to get all big brother on you all, but when huge media platforms start censoring some content and not others, it becomes apparent that they are trying to guide people to think a certain way. That’s a scary thought.
