Welcome back to the 37th installment of my blog, in which I don’t claim to be an expert, in fact the opposite. I’m a new user to the AR platform and want to share my findings and experiences as I go through and build rifles as well as being the Operations Manager at Tyrant Designs.

This is not current news nor should it be a surprise, but 2016 was a record year for gun sales in the United States. An uncertain political climate and presidential election most likely contributed to record firearm sales. What you probably didn’t know is that 2017 is in the running and on pace to be 2nd biggest gun sales year in history! What!!!???!!!???

Yup, you heard it here first! We are on pace for another huge year for firearm sales. How do I know this? Because like I tell my Fiance, I know everything, including that the earth is flat….I digress.

I know this because background check figures were over 12 million this summer and industry experts estimate that we will end up with somewhere around 25 million total backgrounds checks for 2017. For reference, in 2016 we had 27,538,673 total background checks. I understand that not all background checks equal sales but if we rule out that variable and state that the % of background checks to purchase are roughly the same year over year, we can get some legit data. ( I once had a data entry job. I got fired 2 weeks in. F*cking spreadsheets).

People, had speculated that sales would dramatically decrease due to Donald Trump being elected president. But, due to acts of terrorism in the US and around the world we have seen an increase in conceal carry permits, creating an uptrend in background checks this year.

I for one am very interested to see how the numbers shake out by the end of 2017. The summer buying lull is now over. I’ve talked to a wide array of different dealers and manufacturers and things have picked up dramatically. In fact I have capitalized on some sweet deals over the last few weeks.

Because I know my readers are much smarter than the average firearm enthusiast, I wanted to ask. Did you purchase more, less, or the same amount of firearms this year than you have in prior years and why? Leave a comment below or we can’t be friends.
