For anyone out there who is a lover of revolvers, there was a HUGE announcement made on Monday by Colt firearms. There are officially bringing back their thunderous Colt Anaconda 44 Magnum! A lot of people used to love all of the “Snake Guns” that Colt used to produce which included the Cobra 38 Special, Python 357 Magnum, and Anaconda 44 Magnum among a few others. The Anaconda model is the king of them all and a lot of people have been waiting for it.
When Colt was in what some shooters would call their prime for revolver manufacturing in the late ’90s and early 2000s they had a complete portfolio of cartridges. From the small yet stout Cobra series in .38 Special up to the thunderous Colt Anaconda in 44 Magnum, it only made sense to cover the gamut of available cartridges to please firearm owners.
With Colt making this recent resurgence to bring back all of their Snake Guns, the writing was on the wall that the Colt Anaconda was imminent. They once again started out small with the Cobra series. Some people stated those initial Cobra revolvers did not have the same feel and mystique as the original ones, but they were still damn fine wheelguns (this essentially got Colt’s feet wet again). Then, they stepped it up a bit with the re-introduction of the Colt King Cobra Target. This was a gorgeous new offering that gave people hope that more models (bigger models) were on the way. Next came one of the most romanticized revolvers in cinema and the most collectible model in the former Colt line-up: the Colt Python! This really got people excited and everyone thought the journey of reproducing revolvers was complete. All of the true Colt loyalists new that there was one left though… the Colt Anaconda!
The current MSRP for the Colt Anaconda is $1,499 for either a 6” or 8” stainless steel offering. That might seem high in price compared to other models on the market, but honestly, Colt will never meet the demand for this vintage throwback and they will likely sell for above MSRP online. I am one of those revolver junkies who is stoked about the introduction of the Colt Anaconda and cannot wait to put my hands on one. While I love my Glocks, AR-15s, and modifying them with Tyrant Designs components there still is just something about an all metal wheelgun that is cool to me. What do you think?
