I don’t consider myself a poetic man, but oddly enough I enjoy poetry from some of the timeless classics and greats of our era like Mark Twain and Robert Frost. Probably my favorite, which again might come across as predictable or cliché, is Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken.” The overall message is that the worn path, the easiest one, and the most traveled or selected one by others is often not the best. Tyrant Designs knows exactly what this is about. They are a generational, family-owned company who took the path less traveled. They desired a product in the marketplace for a rifle, did not find anything that met their meticulous standards, and set about creating it themselves. That is exactly choosing the road not taken.
Similarly, I would challenge everyone reading this to do the same by taking the path less traveled. Our lives for the last 12 months have been ravaged by inconsistency, “new normals” that are anything but, and we have all been through a lot. So, with so much adversity and daily unknowns I believe we need to all get a mental reset. The way we do this can vary, but for myself, that mental reset can be as easy as getting out and exploring your community. Go for a hike in a park that you have been meaning to visit for years and simply never have gotten around to it. By taking literal less traveled paths I have had myself some pretty interesting adventures. From seeing timberwolves less than 20 yards away, to a group of fawns frolicking in clover, and even spying a curious owl that talks back to you. More than ever I believe people have gotten out in nature recently due to COVID, but choosing our metaphorical path less traveled shouldn’t stop just there.
Aligning yourself with positive people, sharing similar ideas, and even opposing ones in a healthy manner can create a lot of growth. I imagine as Tyrant Designs created their 1st product ever their own unceasing standards forced them to produce many iterations before they landed on the final product they were satisfied with, and that is part of the journey.
It can be great to collaborate with others as well because different disciplines, crafts, arts, and skillsets – although they might appear foreign on the surface – can be uniquely applied in new industries to create something entirely new. Whether it is something small like writers, photographers, and videographers working together on projects or something even larger like the space industry lending materials and know-how to the firearm industry. You never know when genius will strike, but you can provide yourself with more opportunities for it to happen if you take the path less traveled, explore more, and collaborate with others.
