Blog # 263 - The Tactical Games Competition

POST DATE: Aug 18, 2023

As firearm owners, many of us train and attempt to hone our skills as best we can, but there are limits to that. Sometimes we need a test to truly know where we stand. Hopefully, that test doesn’t come in the form of a life-or-death self-defense situation, but sometimes it can be. It would be a lot better to test ourselves before that day ever comes so you have a better grasp of your firearm, accessories, training, and skills to know they are actually on par with where you want to be. A great way to test ourselves without the threat of danger is through competition, and one of the ever-growing competitions in the US is The Tactical Games. What this competition is all about is forcing competitors to be shooting and performing under duress, fatigue, and difficulty. This could be symbolic of self-defense, a tired hunter on a mountain, or you might simply view it through the lens of training – the competition, in and of itself, is training for life.

So, if you want to dive in and compete in The Tactical Games, what should you expect and what will be the benefits?... For one, you should most definitely prepare yourself to be shooting under duress. This can be from running, wearing a heavy kit (weighted plate carrier), rope climbs, barbell movements, burpees, and other forms of fitness torture. While most people would think that this is just a test of fitness (which it is partially), it is also testing if you can safely manipulate a firearm while fatigued. This is extremely important because the moment you’re tired you don’t want to be a dangerous or negligent firearm handler.

The Tactical Games are also known for forcing you to shoot from unorthodox positions. You will be placed in shooting positions you maybe don’t have the opportunity to practice at your local gun range by shooting around barricades, obstacles, kneeling, sitting, or other precarious positions. All of this can also become a tremendous proving ground for your gear. If you think you are super slick with all your firearms, accessories, and related gear, The Tactical Games will absolutely test whether they are worth their salt or not.

Finally, The Tactical Games are a test of you! You can identify your weaknesses so you can train better and sharpen yourself. You can only theorize good shooting practices so much or train statically on a flat range alone. Eventually, it is good to push your limits, test yourself, and figure out what you are good at as well as poor at. So, for anyone who has heard of The Tactical Games and was hesitant to give it a try, feel free to dive in. You just might have stumbled upon something you will really enjoy. In the end, make sure to get out there training, honing your craft, getting reps with your firearms, and likely Tyrant can help you along the way with some rad accessories.
