Blog # 242 - What Makes a Glock Trigger Great?

POST DATE: Sep 8, 2023

The Glock is a popular brand of firearms known for its reliability, durability, and safety features. One of the key components of a Glock firearm is its trigger. The Glock trigger is known for its consistent and relatively light pull, making it a popular choice among shooters of all disciplines. However, not everything about the Glock-style trigger is great and in this article, we will explore what makes a Glock trigger great, as well as what some of its drawbacks are.

Trigger Safety

One of the reasons the Glock trigger is great is because of its safety features. Glock pistols have a "safe action" trigger that features three automatic and independent safeties. These safeties prevent accidental discharges and make it safe for users to handle the firearm. The three safeties are the trigger safety, the firing pin safety, and the drop safety. The trigger safety prevents the trigger from being pulled unless the safety is deliberately pressed. This safety feature ensures that the trigger cannot be accidentally pulled, even if the gun is dropped.

Consistent Trigger

Pull Another reason the Glock trigger is great is its consistent trigger pull. The trigger pull on a Glock is relatively light and consistent, which allows for better accuracy and faster follow-up shots. The consistent trigger pull also makes it easier for shooters to become familiar with the firearm and achieve better accuracy. No matter what model of Glock you pick up, you can expect nearly the same feel from the trigger as every other Glock you’ve shot before.

Customizability

Glock triggers are highly customizable. Many aftermarket triggers are available that can adjust the trigger pull weight, reset, and travel distance. This allows users to customize their triggers to their preferences, which can improve accuracy and shooting performance. Tyrant CNC has an all-aluminum trigger shoe that doesn’t affect the overall performance of the trigger, but does take out some of that spongy feeling a lot of people say the OEM Glock trigger has.

Drawbacks

Trigger Reset

One of the drawbacks of the Glock trigger is its reset. The trigger reset on a Glock can be long and spongy, which can affect the speed and accuracy of follow-up shots. This is especially true when compared to other firearms with shorter trigger resets, such as the Smith & Wesson M&P.

Trigger Safety

While trigger safety is a great safety feature, it can also be a drawback for some shooters. And I’ve personally become a victim of this on more than one occasion and probably still will for the rest of my life. The Glock style of blade safety is one that has always given my fingers a run for their money when it comes to longer-range sessions. This usually only crops up when I go to classes where I’m firing thousands of rounds out of a Glock in just a day or two so for most people this may not be an issue. However, if you’re a fellow range addict like me, you’ll want to take note of this and perhaps find a better aftermarket trigger that works better for you.

In conclusion, the Glock trigger is a great feature of the Glock firearm. Its safety features, consistent trigger pull, and customizability make it a popular choice among shooters for competition, duty, and even self-defense. Overall, the Glock trigger is an important feature of the Glock firearm and plays a significant role in its popularity and success in the firearms industry, despite everything negative about it, it’s probably one of the world's most well-known triggers. As always, we’d like to hear what you have to say about the Glock trigger! What makes a Glock trigger great or terrible for you?
