There is no denying that concealed carry has had an astronomical rise in popularity in the last couple of decades. With better options for carrying from higher capacity and simultaneously (ironically) smaller handguns, we are getting the best of both worlds when it comes to choices in our defensive firearms. Couple that with accessories and varying accouterments we can use to upgrade our handguns like those produced by us here at Tyrant Designs, you can plug-n-play the perfect components to make nearly any handgun precisely your own. Aside from crawling down rabbit holes like “what is the best ammo” or “what red dot should I put on my gun,” the biggest conundrum concealed carry advocates face is the act of carrying. Will you be open to carrying your sidearm, or will you be carrying concealed? Decisions, decisions.
One of the biggest arguments for carrying concealed is the element of surprise. In the hairy event, you need to pull out your defensive sidearm to protect yourself or your loved ones, you will want every advantage that you can get. This’ll vary from having the element of surprise on your attacker, and it also affords you the decision to present your firearm (if at all) or to simply leave it concealed altogether. In some scenarios, you may not want to pull out a firearm. There could be police nearby and you don’t want to “become a target” and be misidentified by law enforcement as a bad guy. The thing about carrying a firearm is that it is a choice as to whether you draw your sidearm. There is no law stating that if you carry you must protect others. You can use your discretion for every situation you are in.
Another reason to carry concealed is so that you do not startle others. Often when people open carry, they get called in by others for “brandishing” a firearm. This often occurs because not everyone views firearms as a tool, not a scary weapon. So, to curb having unnecessary conversations with law enforcement, it is best to conceal carry your firearm in that regard.
Finally, some states require you to do so. Even if it is legal to carry in your state it is best to educate yourself and research whether it is even legal to attempt open carry. Often, it is not legal to open carry for a lot of the reasons previously stated. As a result, concealed carry is the most preferred method for carrying except for rare occasions.
