One of the most loved and talked about handgun designs of our time is surely the Model 1911. This extends to all permutations of it from the higher capacity Model 2011 to even smaller iterations like Springfield Armory’s EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol). In order for Springfield Armory to achieve that small, micro-sized pistol in the venerable 1911 format though they had to change some things. For one, they went from the .45 ACP cartridge down to the popular 9mm round. A small, but necessary change. With this change of Springfield Armory down-sizing to the 9mm round, the dimensions of the pistol could be shrunk tremendously. The gun is lighter to carry, it is easier to conceal, and is chambered in 9mm you still have 9+1 rounds available to you. The newest variant of the EMP was just recently announced in the Ronin EMP lending all of the most popular traits and qualities from their Ronin 1911 series and applying it to the EMP. While some people would sophomorically say the EMP is a 1911, they are actually quite different. The EMP utilizes a different frame, slide, extractor, magazine, and firing pin; everything was made shorter and lighter. All were originally built, designed, and suited for this smaller package. Some of the biggest differences people will notice from the original EMPs to these newer offerings are the price-point and aesthetic. The original EMP retails for $1,249 while the newer Ronin EMP punches in at a much more affordable price of $849. Some of the more unique aesthetic differences are the blued finish on the carbon, forged steel slide paired with a satin aluminum Cerakote forged aluminum alloy frame. You also have Fiber Optic front sights mated with a Tactical Rack White Dot rear sight. Complementing the attractive two-tone finish of the Ronin EMP is a pair of high-quality wood grips with a hybrid checkered/smooth surface for enhanced grip. If you don’t already own a 1911, but would like to carry one the Ronin EMP is a great candidate. Again, this is a truly unique pistol. Proprietary parts include the frame, slide, firing pin, firing pin spring, extractor, ejector, trigger, plunger tube, plunger tube assembly, grips, and magazine. If you give the Ronin EMP a test drive or buy one outright, you are getting something authentically unique.
