For anyone who is not foreign to the firearm industry, when we say the name SIG Sauer you already know they are one of the largest and most prominent manufacturers around. They have been making firearms for close to 100 years, have military contracts all over the world, and make some of the most forward-thinking and innovative guns around for the civilian market. For all of those reasons stated, it is no surprise that we at Tyrant make even more premium upgrades for SIG Sauer firearms since they are so wildly popular. What is surprising though is some recent news surrounding SHOT Show 2022 and who will not be in attendance. That’s right… SIG Sauer has formally made it know that they will not be attending SHOT Show 2022 and are dropping out! So, where did this decision come from and what does it mean for the rest of us?...
Last year – the largest trade show in the firearm industry being SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade show) – was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid and an abundance of caution from the promoters not wanting to spread coronavirus further. That was a difficult decision for the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) to come to because the NSSF gets a tremendous amount of fundraising dollars through hosting SHOT Show. So, by cancelling, they lost all of their funding for the year. It is akin to if the Girl Scouts would not sell Girl Scout cookies one year. That one fundraising event is so successful typically that they do not need to do fundraising for the rest of the year. Also, the NSSF is a huge champion for firearm safety and our firearm rights on capitol hill. So, so one wants to see SHOT Show cancelled.
Now, getting back to SIG Sauer’s exit from SHOT Show 2022. SIG Sauer has released a public statement as to why they came to the decision to not attend SHOT Show 2022, but it is too lengthy to share in its entirety here. The “cliffnotes” or most important reason is the SHOT Show organizers reformatted the show floor layout since the show has expanded this year. So, this forced SIG Sauer to re-build the layout of their colossal booth. They publicly stated this would cost them in excess of $1 Million. So, instead of paying that money for booth remodel plus the cost of sending all of their employees to attend SHOT Show, they have opted to donate $500,000 to the NSSF and stay home.
This could have a domino or waterfall affect on other large attendees as they rationalize the money they will be spending, and whether or not it is financially worth it. Hopefully SHOT Show 2022 does not get cancelled entirely, but we will have to wait and see.
