Blog # 165 // The Argument for Silencers

Blog # 165 // The Argument for Silencers

POST DATE: Sep 8, 2021

Two weeks ago, we shed some light on two of the most versatile silencers in the firearms industry in the SilencerCo Hybrid and Dead Air Primal. With the ability to cover cartridges from rimfire to handgun to rifles, you have the luxury of suppressing nearly your entire collection with just one tax stamp. So, if you do not own a silencer currently and are wondering what all the fuss is about, let us fill you in. There are a bevy of benefits with not the least of which being less noise, less recoil, less muzzle rise, in some instances improved accuracy, and a generally more pleasurable shooting experience.

So, why does less noise matter? For one, it creates a safer shooting experience whether you are shooting recreationally or hunting. One of the most common injuries firearm owners suffer from is chronic hearing loss – losing your ability to hear over a long period of time from exposure to gun fire. This can be hedged against through the use of hearing protection like earmuffs and earplugs, but silencers are a great help as well.

When it comes to less recoil and muzzle rise those elements go hand-in-hand. An inadvertent yet positive side effect silencers have from suppressing noise and the gases your firearm normally expels during live fire is you also have less felt recoil; therefore, less rise in your muzzle. Less recoil can translate into younger, recoil-sensitive shooters being able to enjoy larger cartridges or simply get introduced to shooting at a younger age. For you, you would enjoy the less recoil and muzzle rise because it makes for a more pleasurable shooting experience and you can maintain your sight picture of whatever you are shooting at (the recoil does not lift your gaze away from your given target).

Another positive attribute about silencers is, on rare occasions, it can improve the accuracy of your firearm. If you have a rifle or handgun that is hosting an inferior muzzle brake (obviously not one from Tyrant) the gases could be getting expelled so haphazardly that it is having a negative effect on your accuracy. Silencers more evenly suppress and then relieve your firearm of the gases propelling your bullet down the barrel so in some instances a silencer will improve your accuracy. This can be an incredibly surprising yet welcomed anomaly for anyone having less-than-preferred accuracy with their firearm before deploying a silencer.

Finally, let’s discuss the shooting experience of a silencer. We all understand that the arduous process of purchasing a silencer is no fun, but once you obtain one, they are a hoot to shoot! We see silencers in movies constantly and being able to actually shoot one will make you giddy like a child aside from all of the other benefits that we discussed. So, if you still are on the fence about getting a silencer there is no better time than the present. Research one that might be valuable to you and join the party!
