Through extraordinary circumstances, Remington Outdoor Company (which housed numerous cutlery, firearm, and ammunition labels) went bankrupt and all of those companies under that umbrella came tumbling down. Thankfully, Vista Outdoor (think Federal Premium ammunition) bought Remington ammunition and has them up and running once again. While Federal Premium and Remington ammunition will share a lot of resources, ideas, and technology they are still to be thought of as completely independent companies. They both want to summit the ammunition industry and be #1. If they both end up there at #1 and #2 that is completely fine by them regardless of position. It is one of those “rising tides raise all ships” situations. They both want to independently succeed yet want to help their partners along the way.
I recently had the good fortune to tour the Remington Ammunition Factory and it is truly impressive. The plant was built in 1969 so it has 52 years of history, character, and stories to be told behind it. It is on a 1,200-acre property that houses multiple manufacturing buildings; multiple handguns, rifle, and shotgun ranges; and it is all in the heart of Lonoke, Arkansas. Their manufacturing, in total, covers 1 million square feet of their entire facility and they are running 24/7. What is also impressive is that no ammunition is warehoused at this facility. As soon as a pallet of ammunition is produced and packaged it is sent to their loading dock to be put on a semi-truck and shipped out. Some things that hunters and shooters alike will appreciate is a packaging refresh for many of Remington’s perennial lines of ammunition plus multiple new products to come in the near future. While the ammunition sector looks pretty rough at the moment, there is good news in knowing that Big Green is back roaring full steam ahead again!
