When it comes to firearms there is an entire spectrum of arms that could take several lifetimes to fully appreciate and understand. That is part of the beauty of being addicted to firearms. Most of us here at Tyrant Designs love our Glocks, M&Ps, and similar polymer pistols for predictable reasons: customizable with premium Tyrant components, high capacity, modern, and reliable as heck! This might have been predictable. If you have a couple of drinks with a gun owner they might spill the beans on what their second passion or love of arms is. For myself, that is revolvers. Maybe it is because I watched too many westerns with my grandfather seeing people dual in old dusty towns or I love to see Dirty Harry impart his special brand of justice with a 44 Magnum. Whatever it is, in my mind, wheelguns are just as cool as my Gucci Glock.

One wheelgun that has been a project of mine this past year is the Nagant 7.62x38mmR (not to be confused with a Mosin Nagant 7.62x54mmR – a rifle). To wade through the cartridges just named, the “7.62” is in millimeters and it is implying that the cartridge shoots a .30 caliber bullet. The ending of “38mmR” means that the casing is 38 millimeters tall and it has a rim. Nearly all revolver cartridges have rims to appropriately sit in the cylinder of a revolver, but once you do that bit of deciphering it all begins to make more sense.

The reason why the dated Nagant revolver might be of intrigue to anyone in the 21st century is because of the fact that it is one of the few revolvers in history that can be successfully suppressed! So, if you have ever wanted to put one of your silencers on a revolver (simply because you can) this is the model to do it to. I had mine sent off to Tornado Technologies which is one of the premier, leading gunsmithing corporations for threading Nagant revolvers. They did a superb job and now the firearm is back in my hands in all of its majesty.

To cap off a suppressed revolver project like this, the final piece to the puzzle is deciding what silencer to use?... Since this revolver is only shooting a .30 caliber projectile you have a lot more options. You could potentially use a .30 Cal rifle silencer or a 9mm handgun silencer (9mm is 0.355” and adequately covers the 7.62x38mmR round). Regardless of the type of silencer you choose, it will likely be a blast (pun intended) to shoot suppressed!

So, while I love my Glocks and I absolutely adore customizing my AR-15s it is often fun to dig into the past with a wheelgun or two to have a little bit of exotic fun as well.
