Blog #135 // Vehicle Bug Out Bag

POST DATE: Dec 1, 2

Right now, the entire country is watching Texas struggle hardcore due to the uncharacteristically bad weather they are experiencing. Some people from the North are laughing, but it is actually very concerning how unprepared many people found themselves when thousands of accidents started occurring on freeways and people were losing power in their homes. It was a culmination of horrible weather and a trend of Texas trying to become more “green” with their power grid.

All political discussions aside of how we should be handling our country’s energy needs, we – Tyrant Designs – hail from the windy city of Chicago where inclement weather is a common occurrence. We are a hearty people to handle the frigid cold and winds that gust across our city, but being hearty is not always enough. You need to plan for the worst days yet hope for the best. What we mean by that is you might need a small backpack for yourself in your vehicle to simply get home. Now, when we say something like that we are not going to go “tin-foil hat, prepper, the world is flat” on you, so stick with us here.

Most of us commute maybe 20-30 minutes to and from work. Sometimes we travel a similar distance to buy groceries and goods for our homes. What if your car broke down and help wasn’t coming? The power is out everywhere, car crashes are innumerable, and you need to get home to your family immediately. If you were 3 – 4 miles away and it was 10°F, could you? Sometimes all you might need is a “bug-out bag” or what some people call a “get-home bag.” This is simply a small backpack you could have in your trunk with the bare necessities to simply get yourself home to better safety. This might include some candy bars (high-sugar/energy to keep you moving), a basic multi-tool, a set of road flares so your vehicle doesn’t get hit if you need to abandon it, extra gloves, hat, and water.

You might think, “Well, something like that will never happen to me, I don’t need that stuff.” It’d be better to have a backpack like the one we described rolling around in your trunk for years never used than to urgently need one someday like everyone in Texas. It is all about being prepared for the worst and hopefully, you will never have to use it. The world can be a sketchy place and it is best to navigate it as prepared as possible.
