When it comes to shooting firearms there is not much to dislike about them. Many of us become completely giddy once we hear that first report of a round going off. Shooting firearms for many of us is as much about stress relief and having fun as it is for hunting, self-defense, or competition. If we had to narrow down though some of the negatives we experience while shooting two elements that would be high on that list are noise and recoil. Many cartridges like .223 Rem/5.56mm NATO or 9mm are not too punishing or too loud by any means, but how much more enjoyable would your shooting experience be if you could essentially eliminate the recoil and noise? Well, you have a couple ways in which you could accomplish that!

One pathway is to utilize a muzzle brake on your handgun or rifle like the Tyrant Designs CyberBrake. With an accessory like that you can reduce recoil, lower flash signature, and mitigate muzzle rise. Some secondary benefits from a high-quality muzzle device like the CyberBrake is you will likely be able to shoot faster, flatter, and ultimately gain more confidence in your ability as well. Those are all great characteristics, but one downside to all muzzle brakes is that they are loud. So, we only solved one piece to our original puzzle of recoil and noise.

Another option people look into are silencers. Your first thought might be: “Aren’t silencers illegal or outlawed?” You might be surprised to find out that they actually are legal and hundreds of thousands of people own them. We do not want to paint too rosy of a picture regarding silencers though. They unfortunately are heavily regulated and it can be a daunting task to purchase your first one if you have never done it before. You have to pay the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) a $200 fee for each silencer you purchase, you have to submit fingerprint cards, passport photos, and are subjected to a drawn-out background check that can sometimes take over a year! If your patience can last that long then you can get a silencer which reduces recoil, reduces the noise of whatever you are shooting to hearing safe levels, and a good silencer can even make you more accurate. This is usually accomplished by making your ammunition more consistent as it exits your firearm.

So, that is some food-for-thought when it comes to shooting if you want to cut down on the noise and recoil you experience. If you go the route of the silencer, it will do everything you are looking for and more, but it is an extremely expensive and invasive process. A sometimes more affordable and faster route to at least less recoil is something like the Tyrant Designs CyberBrake. As always, let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below.
