It’s right in the tagline of the company name - Glock Perfection. However, human beings are notorious for messing even with optimal circumstances and that includes me. I’ve been a massive fan of the Glock family of polymer-framed safe-action pistols for decades but that most certainly hasn’t stopped me from giving into my inner amateur gunsmith and tinkering around with them a bit... or a lot. Despite Glock putting out what is hands-down one of the most reliable, dependable, and utilitarian designs for concealed handguns I still think there are a few key aftermarket upgrades you can make to your Glock pistol that make it just a bit more perfect(er). I’m not talking about rainbow Tin Coated threaded barrels or even punisher skull slide caps, we’re talking about essential upgrades. Specifically, ones that I think almost everyone can benefit from.

To start with, most Glocks come with pretty boring standard sights featuring a single white dot front sight and a rear squared “u-notch” sight that leaves much to be desired for varying levels of light. If you’re going to improve just one thing about your Glock pistol and it doesn’t already have night sights on it, this would be my first place to go. Night sights, while very expensive compared to standard three-dot sights, will give you better visibility with which to line up your sights. There are tons of quality aftermarket night sight manufacturers out there and with a few rare exceptions, you really can’t go wrong selecting any single one of them - just pick something you like and that is suitable to your specific EDC situation.

All things being equal There are people out there who are probably screaming at their phone screens right now about how a red dot sight increases the likely hood of visible printing and therefore will flag people to the fact that you’re packing. I’m here to tell you that 1. No one is paying attention and 2. Modern red dot sights are quite small and don’t really add all that much extra weight, complexity, or bulk to your EDC setup. Besides that, your 5.11 Pants, 9 Line Apparel Shirt, and Multicam baseball cap already gave away the fact that you were carrying.

As a final note about aftermarket sights for the Glock pistol, I think its more essential that you not only have a good set of night sights for your pistol but also ones that either partially or fully co-witness with your red dot sight if you opt to use one. Beyond that, it’s also paramount that you practice with both of these platforms while they are mounted to the gun. Some recent training I’ve had at the legendary Gunsite Academy showed me just how terrible I was with using my iron sights when the red dot optic mounted to the pistol was rendered (purposefully) inoperable. However unlikely you think it is that you’ll need to use the iron sights on your RDS-equipped pistol, it still helps to train for that unlikely scenario - it could save your life.
