Is the media lying about shootings?

Don’t believe everything you read.

(Unless it’s from this blog.)

A recent report regarding school shootings came out earlier this year. The Department of Education reported that there were 235 school shootings in 2015-2016. By the end of the summer NPR and Child Trends, and a nonpartisan research organization inquired about each school to find out the legitimacy of each shooting reported.

Here is some perspective. 235 schools is .2 % of all US schools. That’s less than a half of a percent. Of the 235 schools that were inquired about, only 176 schools responded. Of those 176 schools that responded, ONLY 11 CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD AN ACTUAL SCHOOL SHOOTING.

Eleven, out of the actual 235 reported. Think about the gravity of this lie. Now, even a single shooting is a terrible event. I for one would love for our schools to have an armed security guard or two.

Why is there such a big difference between the number of shootings happening and the ones being reported? That’s a good question. Some Department of Education officials say that some of the shootings are being classified due to human error of the person filling out the forms. Others say that there might be errors with the computer reporting system. Either way, there seems to be a gross misrepresentation in the number of school shootings happening in this country.

It is my opinion that the mainstream media wants you to believe that school shootings are more prevalent than they really are. And it is false statistics like this that give fuel for the anti-gun legislation that tries to rear its ugly head at us law-abiding gun owners every year.

But there is good news! The Department of Education is going to make revisions to the 2015-2016 school shooting statistics in light of this new data collected by NPR. They will make an amendment to the current statistics rectifying the discrepancy. The Department of Education didn't say much on how they would obtain more accurate numbers in the future, which to me is concerning.  It sure does make me think, what else is being falsely represented to us as fact?

Wow, where did that complete moron of a troll ‘Ardent’, come from. Hey bud, its clear that you cant even read! The article clearly says the State Department has even admitted to their error. NPR, a credible news outlet broke this story. The biased left wing news plays school shootings 24/7 to push gun control, so we would know if there was really more than 11-15 schools shootings for that year. Your level of stupidity almost left me speechless. Crawl back into your hole and learn to read, instead of making up conspiracy theories in your head on the fly, completely denying reality.

Nonsense. The shootings are real and easily verifiable. The deaths are real. You do a disservice to your company and to the American people by trying to paint these stats as fake news. Just because we dont like something doesn’t make it untrue. Cancer sucks…but it exists. We can’t fight it and eventually beat it by putting our fingers in our ears and claiming that “everyone’s just exaggerating!” Same principle applies here…let’s look for solutions rather than cry-babying about “conspiracies”.

The mainstream media is just the propaganda arm of the socialist left, and the FBI (Department of Justice) is now nothing more than their enforcement arm….

Re: Scott
Hey Scott! The FBI does keep track of all the statistics regarding every aspect of crime and victims. It’s very specific, it the very life blood that helps to direct Federal resources to States and communities. The media will always do what is necessary in the name of sensationalism. Thanks for the article guys.

Typical leftist behavior; put out crap lies, get called out, claim to “correct” the error. TOO LATE, the disinformation is already out there and will never go away. How many children has Jimmy Carter’s “Department of Edukashun” ever educated? Zero. Get rid of that worthless money pit.

Normally really enjoy reading your blog posts but the title of this one and your argument are off man…

While I agree that bad statistics are bad… and we all, especially gun owners, feel the effects of that, you make a huge and incorrect leap to blaming the “mainstream media”… NPR, aka the mainstream media, is the reason bad statistics are getting fixed in this case. This was a governmental agency that was putting out bad information. Shouldn’t we put the blame where it lies?

On a more positive note would dig seeing your take on a stock ala Fortis’ LA Stock. Seems like you guys have the talent for design and fabrication to pull something innovative off.

Its not very shocking when you look into the real numbers of shootings and killings in schools in America. The media and certain political members need to lie so that they have a way to justify what they are doing. I recently looked at the number of people killed at school shooting from 1996 to 2017, I believe it was just under 200. I know its 200 to high but, when I looked at how many kids where killed playing school organized sports from 1996 to 2001 it was over 400 kids! If people really wanted to protect kids at school then why are we not having rallies and marches for ending sports? Its not in the constitution, its not a guaranteed right of the people.

Not surprisingly here in my state school shooting are counted as such even if is was after hours and was drug related. So just being on school property apparently counts as a school shooting. Still trying to wrap my head around that. And yes it’s really hard for the law abiding citizens to fight this with the information so lopsided. This is where I think the FBI should be the organization keeping track of this information.
