Welcome back to the 53rd installment of my blog, in which I don’t claim to be an expert, in fact, the opposite. I’m a new user of the AR platform and want to share my findings and experiences as I go through and build rifles as well as being the Operations Manager at Tyrant Designs.

It’s only science fiction until someone can manifest it real life, then it’s science faction. What am I talking about? Often times nobody knows, but what I’m referring to is the latest news to come out of the Army Research Lab.

Currently, The Army is working on a Steadicam third arm to help soldiers on the battle field. Essentially, this mechanical “third arm” will help soldiers stabilize their rifle with little to no effort, as well as save energy by not having to literally carry their rifle.

The prototype can support an M249 or a 20 lb defensive shield. It will help soldiers handle over sized weaponry with high capacity magazines. One has to wonder if this prototype becomes real, what weaponry will evolve with it.

Aliens (1986)

This kind of augmented third arm capability has been used in quite a few sci-fi movies. I wonder if the Army Lab has been consulting with James Cameron?

Any other movies that use this futuristic "third arm" concept that I forgot? Let me know in the comments below.
